Re: Sciatica
yeah about 11 years ago. I was on a short gig in Paris. What I found was the matress in the flat I rented was really soft. When I went back to London on my hard bed it got better. When I finished the gig and work back home it went away.

Re: Sciatica
Anti inflammatory drugs are your friend. I did loads of acupuncture and physio but that finally did it.

Yes.

Twice.

21 months and six months without being able to play football.

Hell.

I suspect I'll get more of it in my sixties than I did in my 40s and 50s.

It will win, and I'll have to take up bowls or tiddlywinks instead.

Re: Sciatica
I had physio, chiropractor and acupuncture. There is no magic cure unfortunately. I had fascet joint and nerve root epidural injections and that helped. Apart from that; exercise (swimming is good) and shit loads of core exercise. Good luck!

Re: Sciatica
Yes for a long time but gone now. Its like Toothache in your leg.

An anti anti-inflammatory something like Nuerophen over the counter, Or Diclofenac from a doctor. Have to eat before you take them they can cause ulcers

When resting lay on your side bent your legs and put a pillow between your knees takes the drag off of your back

Re: Sciatica
Rearrange or rethink your typical sitting position. That helped me.

Re: Sciatica
I suffered with it for years - off and on. Since moving to France they checked me out thoroughly. They found that damage to 3 discs had turned arthritic and was gripping the spinal column causing pain, restricting movement and would cripple me eventually.

Good old NHS never once X-rayed me. Had an op in France 5 years ago and fit as a fiddle again apart from a foot long scar on my back.

Re: Sciatica
Very rarely get any illnessss but in the last year got my first bout ot gout (absolutely painful cunt) and just after that sciatica (an even more painful cunt).

I was signed off for 2 weeks with Sciatica and couldn’t walk, couldn’t sit so just stood most that time propped up against the back wall of my house, luckily it was summer so I ended up with a quality tan. Apart from the drugs I got a TENS machine, which helped loads, put the pads on the bottom of your arse and each side of your spine and whack it on max.

Re: Sciatica
It was painful a lot of the time. The longer bout was worse, as I couldn't find a position which didn't hurt to be in.

The more recent bout was a lot easier, as I could find a shape to my body which was almost pain-free, although there was still numbness.

Unfortunately, staying in that position wasn't compatible with playing football.

Or only the Sammy Lee role of blocking the keeper's view by lying on the ground in an offside position "without interfering with play"...

Re: Sciatica
Had it a few years ago, after a kick in the back playing football.

Never known pain like it - couldn't get out of bed in the morning, absolute agony.

There is no way around it - just wait and it will sort itself out. I did physio - stretching and the like - every day but I don't know if it made any difference.

Join a couple of sciatica forums online. Won't help the pain but psychologically it does help to discuss it with other people going through the same thing.

Re: Sciatica
herniated disc L4 & L5 and yes its painful akin to toothache down leg. another MRI tomorrow to see if a 'decompression' op is the way forward. anyone had any experience in this? cant believe this im only 51 and always though i was pretty healthy
